Swedish comedy - Singapore sense of humor
Last night I happened to be on the screening of the Swedish movie (advertised by Ying Ying).
The movie itself was nice impressionistic tragic-comedy. It gave me a feeling of winter (supported by freezing aircon and my shoes wet from rain) - for those who know that - it was the same feeling as when you get back from walking/skiing in the wet snow, your shoes got wet, your toes are aching, and you need to travel for one hour in freezing bus/train to get to the warmth of home (yeah that's the winter and I hate this part, though I love it as a whole). Plus it was good to see that there are still countries where seasons change (ok, cheap shot).
What made me quite surprised were the moments when the audience laughed - imagine setting when son is hyperactive kid with talent in causing chaos, mother is terminally ill and currently she is suffering mental breakdown because of her crazy children. For some reason the audience was almost crying... from the laughter. Huh??? For quite some time I was curious what kind of humor do Chinese have... Is this the one? Or they did not understand it at all, just read somewhere it was comedy, so they were trying to hit the right places to laugh? Please comment...
BTW the movie was really nice, partly funny, partly sad, with a nice theme that even if you are loosing your loved ones one by one, your life is still better than the life of Laika (the first dog in the universe). Waf!

honey the audience laughed not becoz they are unfeeling, but this is a heartwarming and sweet movie, has the elements of comedy, drama, misery all into it. And the boy is really cute, guess everyone empathises with his little journey ahead and his mischevious tricks as he goes along. now this has nothing to do with singaporean humour :P
Dear Ying, please read the posting once again.
Done? I did like the movie, I know it had both comedy and drama inside, I laughed a lot too, it's just I found some moments more sad than funny. Maybe a different perception of these things?
I remember watching a funny movie with a Taiwanese boy. What impresses me most is not the content of the movie, but we always laughed at different parts throughout the whole show. Then I realize maybe he is not the right boy for me as we even don't have similar sense of humor!
So my point is, even Singaporeans have different sense of humor from you, (or we Taiwanese have it differently from yours) it should make a lot of sense. You may see another example last night we had at home - even Jessica and me (2 Taiwanese girls) have VERY different feeling about Leonardo Dicaprio! :P
I am so confused...do I have asian humour or kiwi humour? I think perhaps I have inherited some british dry humour...some NZ sarcastic humour...some silly humour from Devrim and Nacho...aieee
haha michal help me! find me some random NZ news from Slovakia...hehe
and yes vega, last night ying and I had differing views on leonardo too...hmmm!
I did not see the movie, I do not ewven know what movie you are talking about, but GEGA!!!!! So you are not with that boy because he did not laugh at the same moments than you did in that movie.
PERIOD: You have issues! :)
